A romaine lettuce recall has been instituted by Freshway Foods. 19 cases of E Coli have been confirmed because of the romaine lettuce in this recall. You may need instant money to go see a doctor when you have eaten the romaine lettuce in this recall.

Winter garden in Southern CA

Oh the misery for my beautiful summer garden has run its course. All of the vegetables have been eaten and all of the herbs have been used to season. But now what? The days are more mild and the rains are about to arrive (I hope).

Aloe for burns?

I am recovering from first degree burns on legs after a clay pot from Chinatown burst while making chicken soup (recipe coming soon). I hear that aloes are very good for burns. I have some succulents growing around my house. Does anybody know which one are good for burns and how to treat the afflicted areas? I could use some guidance.

Snails, snails and more snails! What to do?

Does anyone have an easy, organic way to keep the snails away? I live on the edge of a wild canyon and find literally hundreds every day. I’ve taken to throwing them over the edge, which has helped, but now my right shoulder is killing me! I’ve used “snail bait” but don’t feel good about the ingredients, and because it attracts snails sometimes I actually end up with more of the critters.

Is Organic Sustainable

I’ve been thinking a lot about organic gardening and I’ve been wondering if it is sustainable on a macro level. One of the by-products of the rapid assent of industrial agriculture is the huge population explosion of the last century.

Planting String Beans

I recently found two of the largest string beans I have ever seen growing on the vines that I had given up for fallow. Can I plant the seeds inside the beans and grow new plants? If so how should I

My daughter and I were digging in the vegetable garden when we came across a beautiful slithering earthworm. She asked if it was good for the vegetables like some bugs or bad for them like some others.

Meyer Lemon Trees

Ever since I sampled my first Meyer lemon Sidecar I have coveted a Meyer Lemon tree. Two things. One can you give any advice about buying and planting a tree? And two does anybody know where Meyer lemons come from? Are they a crazy cross, genetically engineered, or a heirloom variety that has simply come back into vogue?
